In August 2026, Wickard joined WashU Law and the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam to deliver practical AI education in Tanzania.
The three-day initiative included seven programs addressing how AI is used, where it can fail, and how institutions can approach adoption responsibly. A session with the Tanganyika Law Society reached more than 200 lawyers and paired practical instruction with professional-responsibility considerations.
Other sessions addressed teaching and learning at Dar es Salaam University College of Education, AI and human rights at the Legal and Human Rights Centre, and responsible use of AI in journalism. Embassy programming also brought together educators, legal professionals, and alumni of U.S. exchange and educational programs.
The initiative brought AI education to several professional communities facing different questions about the same technology. Wickard thanks the U.S. Embassy, WashU Law, and the participating Tanzanian institutions for making the programs possible.
